After finishing runner-up in the Copa do Brasil, the Flamengo landed in Rio de Janeiro at around 00:40 this Monday. A group of around 50 fans staged a protest at Galeão airport and called for coach Sampaoli to leave.

Players like Pedro, Gabigol, Everton Cebolinha and David Luiz were also targets. Leaders like President Landim and Marcos Braz were heavily insulted. A security scheme was put in place so that the delegation would not have contact with the fans.
Gabigol did not return to Rio de Janeiro with the delegation. With the squad off, the player remained in São Paulo.

With shouts of “Sampaoli out” and “shameless team”, the fans arrived at around 11pm last Sunday at the airport – the flight was delayed for around 1 hour.

The atmosphere became tense in the place. Head of security FlamengoPinheiro went out to talk to the fans before the delegation arrived.
They claimed that they did not want aggression, just to talk to the players, but they were warned that the delegation would not leave that way. A different exit gate was used for the bus with the delegation to leave the airport.
In seventh place in the Brazilian Championship, 11 points behind leader Botafogo, the Flamengo is far from fighting for the national title and lost all six other competitions it competed in in 2023: Club World Cup, Supercopa do Brasil, Recopa Sul-Americana, Libertadores, Carioca and Copa do Brasil. Since 2019, Rubro-Negro has not finished a year without winning titles.
