Charlotte native, former ECU WR Blake Proehl receives golden ticket on American Idol

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Charlotte native and former East Carolina wide receiver turned singer Blake Proehl received a golden ticket on American Idol on Sunday night.

Proehl who played high school football at Providence High School before taking his talents to East Carolina.

The former Pirate declared for the 2021 NFL Draft where he went undrafted, but signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He was placed on injured reserved after injuring his knee.

At the start of the 2022 season, Proehl was placed on the reserved/PUP list. He was later activated, then waived and re-signed to the practice squad.

He is currently a free agent.

Proehl’s father, Ricky Proehl played 17 seasons in the NFL and played three seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
