Free Titan Sunflower seeds available to grow for Albemarle County Fair

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – The Albemarle County Fair has a new competition that anyone can participate in.

Gardeners across central Virginia are challenging each other to see who can grow the tallest and largest sunflower.

In order to get started, anyone interested needs to plant seeds that you can pick up at the JMRL Gordon Avenue Library.

“Our thought was, choose that giant sunflower that has the shortest growing period because the Albemarle County Fair, the entry day is July 31,” Piedmont Extension Master Gardener volunteer Fern Campbell said, “We had to find the type of sunflower that could be grown between now and then. The Titan Sunflower is the seed of choice.”

All seeds and instructions are free to pick up through April 21.
