INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis baseball team slid to 2-4 after dropping the series finale to the Grand Valley State Lakers on Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers, propelled by a six-run third inning, kept the Hounds off the scoreboard in the final four frames of the contest, benefiting from 14 runners being left on base for the Hounds.
Of the Hounds offense, Brayton Bowen and Drew Donaldson both went yard in the loss, with Bowen having a 1-1 day with three walks.
INS & OUTS
The Lakers grabbed the lead early, taking starter Logan Petersen yard in the first frame, but the third was where most of the their damage came. Facing lefty Caden Wilburn, they scored six with the cap being a three-run bomb.
The Hounds started their attempted comeback the third with Donaldson’s bomb, a solo shot to left center. Bowen hammered on an inning later over the right field fence, also a solo shot
Sloppy defense and pitching scored two more for the Hounds but it wasn’t to be as the Hounds fell in their second straight series.
BULLPEN NOTE
Payton Plym, Austin Bestul and E.J. White were locked in from the top of the fourth to the end of the game, silencing the Laker bats in the final six innings. They combined for six punchouts while issuing only one walk.
UP NEXT
The Hounds will look to right their ways as they welcome in the Purdue Northwest Pride for a doubleheader at Greyhound Park this Tuesday. Action is set to begin at noon.
