Pie and pizza deals at Taco Bell, more

Thursday, March 14 is National Pi Day, a time to celebrate the number that represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.

The number is known as π, the first letter of the Greek word “perimetros,” which loosely translates to “circumference,” according to PiDay.org.

Pi, which is typically rounded down to 3.14, can actually go on forever. The most accurate value for Pi, according to Guinness World Records, is more than 62 trillion digits (62,831,853,071,796 to be precise), calculated in August 2021 by the University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.

But Pi Day is about much more than just a number. It’s also about scoring some great deals on actual pie, pizza pie and other treats. Looking for a sweet discount on perhaps the nation’s nerdiest day? USA TODAY has you covered.

Barbara Funnell, owner of Grateful Pie Co., prepares an apple pie with a pi symbol at her bakery in South Bend, Indiana. Thursday is Pi Day, and she will celebrate her first anniversary at the site.

When is Pi Day? Get deals to add to your celebration

You don’t have to be a whiz at math or science to celebrate National Pi Day. For the first Pi Day on March 14, 1988 at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, former physicist Larry Shaw led a celebration with fruit pies and tea.
