CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the sixth straight season, the Atlantic Coast Conference will send eight teams to the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, tying for the most among all conferences. Led by hosts NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech, the ACC’s NCAA contingent also includes Duke, Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina and Syracuse.
Within the most recent six-year span, the 48 selections from the ACC are also the most among all conferences.
The 2024 NCAA Tournament will feature 68 teams for the third consecutive year. First Four games will be played Wednesday, March 20, and Thursday, March 21, at four of the top 16 host sites. First- and second-round games will be played Friday, March 22, through Monday, March 25, at the top 16 seeds.
Notre Dame (26-6, 13-5), which is coming off its first ACC title in five years, will be the No. 2 seed in the Albany 1 Regional. This season marks third straight year the Fighting Irish will play in the NCAA Tournament and the 29th time overall. Entering March Madness on an eight-game winning streak, ND will face 15th-seeded Kent State in its first-round matchup.
ACC Tournament runner-up NC State (27-6, 13-5) earned its seventh straight and 29th overall bid into March Madness as a No. 3 seed. The Wolfpack will host No. 14 seed Chattanooga for their first-round contest.
Regular-season champion Virginia Tech (24-7, 14-4) will be the No. 4 seed in the Portland 3 Regional and will host 13th-seeded Marshall to begin its March Madness campaign. The Hokies make their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 13th overall.
Syracuse (23-7, 13-5) is the No. 6 seed and will head to Storrs, Connecticut, for its first-round game against the winner of Auburn and Arizona. The Orange are returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021 after the program made eight straight trips to The Big Dance.
Making its 13th straight trip to March Madness, Louisville (24-9, 12-6) earned the No. 6 seed and will face No. 11 seed Middle Tennessee in the first round in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This will mark the Cardinals’ 26th appearance in March Madness.
Duke (20-11, 11-7) claimed the No. 7 seed in the Portland 3 Regional and will travel to Columbus, Ohio for its first-round contest. The Blue Devils, who make their 26th appearance in the tournament, will square off with No. 10 seed Richmond in a regular-season rematch.
After advancing to the semifinals of the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament as a sixth seed, Florida State (23-10, 12-6), which makes its 11th straight trip to The Big Dance and 22nd overall, will take on No. 8 Alabama in the first round as the No. 9 seed. The Seminoles and Crimson Tide will link up in Austin, Texas.
North Carolina (19-12, 11-7), which earned the No. 8 seed, will be making its 31st appearance in the NCAA Tournament when it faces No. 9 seed Michigan State in Columbia, South Carolina.
The ACC owns the most NCAA Tournament wins (119) of any conference since 2014. The next closest conference has 107. ACC member institutions have won three NCAA Championships and made 23 trips to the Final Four. With Virginia Tech advancing in 2023, nine different institutions have represented the ACC in the Women’s Final Four.
For the 21st consecutive year, an ESPN channel will broadcast all 67 games of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship. This marks the 29th straight year (since 1996) ESPN is the championship’s exclusive television home. All games will be available online via the ESPN App.
Regional play in Albany, New York (MVP Arena) and Portland, Oregon (Moda Center) will take place March 29-April 1, with each site hosting two regional semifinal games March 29 and two March 30. In addition, each site will host a regional championship game March 31 and one on April 1. The 2024 NCAA Women’s Final Four will be played April 5 and 7 at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
